CELEBRATING RICHARD SCHMID - OCTOBER 2, 2022
With this celebration for Richard, we introduced our soon to be “streaming platform” with Richard’s teaching videos: THE CAPTAIN’S PORTRAIT and RICHARD SCHMID PAINTS MICHELLE DUNAWAY. (We will keep you posted with our Newsletter.) Next we watched live painting with top artists sharing stories about Richard and their skill. We also made a film short bringing you back to the 1990s when Richard founded a painting group with the Loveland Academy of Fine Arts in Colorado. Richard painted over 100 portraits, many still lifes, and took the group Plein air painting. One of his favorite places to paint was The Cache La Poudre River. Below is a quote from Richard and one of the many paintings from that time.

“When I am in the field, my gardens, by a river, or anywhere else outdoors, my goal is not to capture everything in sight, nor to walk away with a completed painting in my hand. Rather, it is far more important for me to study and observe Nature’s qualities, so I can understand and capture what is most essential to me.
…I must have a clear idea of why I am out there braving the weather and insects and onlookers. I must know exactly what it is about my subject that compels me to express it with my paints and brushes.” RS
